Process

1.0   Free 30-Minute Initial Consultation

  • We begin with a relaxed, no-obligation conversation to understand your vision for your garden. During this session, we’ll explore how you live and how your outdoor space can support that — from entertaining and family life to privacy and relaxation. We’ll also discuss the scale of your project and establish an initial brief.

  • At this stage, having an approximate budget is helpful in shaping the direction of the design (our projects typically range from £300,000 to £3M+).

2.0  Site Visit & Fee Proposal

  • Following our initial discussion, we may arrange a visit to your property to fully understand the landscape, identify opportunities and constraints, and refine your brief in greater detail.

  • After the visit, you’ll receive a tailored fee proposal structured in line with the RIBA Plan of Work. Fees vary depending on the scale, complexity, and level of service required.

3.0  Engagement & RIBA Work Stages

Once appointed, we guide you through a carefully structured design and delivery process. Depending on timing, we may begin with a feasibility study or move directly into concept design.

Stage 2: Concept Design (approx. 2-3months; £10-25k)

This is when we develop the overarching vision for your garden and includes:

  • Site analysis identifying key opportunities and constraints

  • Division of the landscape into distinct “character areas”

  • Curated moodboards to define the design language

  • Initial sketches and spatial ideas

  • Following your feedback, we produce a fully realised masterplan, supported by a 3D model, optional visualisations, and a clear design narrative covering circulation, planting, and spatial strategy.

Stage 3: Developed Design (approx. 2-3months; £10-25k)

Once the concept design is approved, it is refined into a coordinated and deliverable design. This stage includes:

  • Collaboration with architects and design team (if applicable)

  • Preparation and submission of any required planning applications

  • Detailed CAD drawings and outline specifications

  • Information to support early cost planning

Stage 4: Technical Design (approx. 3-4months; £15-30k)

We prepare a comprehensive technical package to bring the design to life and go out to tender the project for construction. This includes:

  • Detailed construction drawings and specifications

  • Coordination with the wider design team

  • Information required for accurate tendering and contractor pricing

Stage 5: Construction (usually 6-18month build; £5-10k monthly retainer)

We remain closely involved throughout the build to ensure the garden is delivered exactly as intended. Our role includes:

  • Reviewing progress on site

  • Supporting the contractor and responding to RFI's

  • Safeguarding the integrity of the design

This gives you complete confidence that the finished garden reflects the original vision.

Flexible Approach

Every project is unique. Where appropriate, stages may be combined (for example, Concept and Developed Design) to create a more streamlined process.
