LML Design Ltd (LML) was established in the summer of 2025 by Laura Mackie, founder and principal of the practice. Laura brings extensive international and UK experience across high end garden design, hospitality, commercial developments and public realm projects.
Beginning her career in Sydney, she developed a strong interest in sustainable design, with a particular focus on water management and construction detailing. After returning to the UK, she worked with leading landscape architecture practices, including Gillespies and LDA, gaining a thorough understanding of UK planning systems while refining her expertise in large-scale, multi-disciplinary residential and commercial developments.
Prior to founding LML Design, Laura was a Director at Marcus Barnett Studio, where she played a key role in leading the studio and elevating its design standards, delivering high-profile private and hospitality projects across the world.
LML Design works with clients across the UK and internationally, delivering projects that range from intimate townhouse gardens and roof terraces to expansive country estates and holiday villas.
Philosophy
LML's philosophy is rooted in creating landscapes that are visually captivating, harmonious with nature, and evolving spaces that only improve with time. I design gardens to be inhabited and enjoyed, with a deep understanding of the clients’ needs, the site, and the lifestyles of those who will use the space. I believe that no single design fits all: successful landscapes emerge from collaboration, dialogue, and responsiveness to context.
LML's designs are restrained yet rich, offering layers of complexity that encourage exploration. With crisp geometry, considered planting, and meticulous construction detailing, each space unfolds with its own character and mood. The result of listening to the clients aspirations, developing a detailed client brief, and designing to meet their dreams and needs.
